Medical Repatriation Insurance For Non ACU Permitted events held outside of the UK
When you are competing in an event outside of the UK where a start permission is required from the ACU , it is a requirement of the FIM that all participants competing in events which are not permitted by their own federation should have the following insurance cover in place:-
Death £25,000
Permanent Disablement £50,000
Medical / Repatriation Expenses £15,000
The ACU have arranged an annual policy which provides all of their license holders with the following cover as part of their start permissions:-
Death £25,000
Permanent Disablement £50,000
Medical / Repatriation Expenses £100,000
Hospital benefit £2,000 (following 28 days hospitalisation or 14 days for Trials riders)
The medical and repatriation sum insured is higher than the minimum requirements of the FIM. In our experience €15,000 is not an adequate amount to protect our riders who are injured outside of the UK. We have seen an increase in medical expenses over the years and have a number of riders whose medical expense bills have been higher than €50,000 following a serious injury.
In addition the ACU policy provides competitors with a £2,000 hospital benefit if you are hospitalised for a period of 28 days (14 for trials riders) within a 12 month period after an accident.
Please note this policy does NOT provide any cover in relation to illness or sickness, the operate time of the cover is whilst you are competing or attending official practice at the event to which your start permission is required.
If you need to extend this cover to include unofficial practice and travel insurance then please contact Lockton for a quotation.
