Sudbury MCC were instrumental in creating the Youth Championship, having seen an opportunity to filter some of the younger riders who were using the junior tracks at the GH Motorcycles Fundays, by creating local events to give the younger riders enduro race experience. After 8 seasons, 2024 saw the series supported & approved by the ACU Eastern Centre for the first time with Bury St Edmunds MCC kindly hosting the second race of the series and Sudbury continue to organize the remaining five events held within the Eastern Centre region in conjunction with adult eastern Centre championship rounds. Managing Director Gavin Hockey of Sponsors GH Motorcycles: with his strong connection to Sudbury MCC having held the post of Chairman for many years, had competed from an early age with his brother Chris “Kiwi” in schoolboy events aided and abetted by his mother Sylvia Hockey, who embraced the sport with no prior knowledge, yet used the family horse trailer to ensure the boys could transport their bikes around to country wide events. Always supporting where possible and getting totally involved in all that went on including marshalling and helping on the day. Later Sylvia would be instrumental in helping Gavin with GH Motorcycles working in all departments and becoming truly knowledgeable, Sylvia was extremely well known on the enduro / bike scene. Always a friendly face at the GH Motorcycle Fundays at signing on remembering names and congratulating progress. Attending the last event Gavin Sponsored at the Muntjac in November 24. Following Sylvias sudden passing just before Christmas, this trophy totally embraced her belief in supporting and enjoying the sport from grassroots up to national and international level where her own sons competed successfully over the years. Nothing would have given her more pleasure than to see the faces of successful young riders adding their name to her beautiful trophy - “The Sylvia Hockey Memorial Cup”
