The ACU Track Racing Commission (TRC) is pleased to announce a new addition to the 2025 racing calendar: The ACU Old and New Sidecar British Championship & Classic British Upright Solo Championship.
This inaugural event will take place on Sunday, 31st August 2025, and will be proudly hosted by the Mid Cornwall Premier Motorcycle Club at their Boarded Circuit in Roche.
Summary of Agreed Format Changes/Conditions:
Old & New Sidecar British Championship: Requires a minimum of 12 entries to maintain its championship status. Amalgamation of the Pre-75 British Championship & British Upright Championship: Renamed ACU British Classic (Upright) Solo Championship and requires a minimum of 16 entries to maintain its championship status. Removal of Upright 250cc / 350cc Upright Class as a Championship Status Continuation of the British 500cc Classic Championship: For 500cc upright engine machines. This now permits Pre-75 (2-valve) machines, with an award for the top-performing competitor using a pre-75 machine. Up to 350cc Classic Gold Cup: For up to 350cc upright engine machines. This now permits Pre-75 (2-Valve) machines, with awards for the top-performing competitor(s) using a Pre-75 250cc and 350cc machine. The ACU Track Racing coordinator Kirsty Telford commented on behalf of the Track Racing Commission “While we acknowledge that this news may be disappointing for some competitors impacted by these changes, we must emphasise that these standards are consistent with all British championships and will continue to be monitored to support the growth of the sport and maintain the integrity of British championships.”
It has been no secret that low rider numbers across some of the affected classes have impacted interest from organisers in hosting the Pre-75 Championship and the Upright Championship in the past. As a result, a sensible decision has been made to uphold minimum standards and adapting this format to ensure the continued progression of these championships while also recognising achievements of competitors using older machines.
We look forward with working with Mid Cornwall Premier Motorcycle Club to showcase the Old & New sidecar class and classic upright classes to encourage their continued growth of the next generation of 1000cc Sidecar Racers and celebration of the iconic machines from yesteryear.
