The Auto Cycle Union (ACU) is pleased to confirm further details of its plans for the new-format MXGB British Youth Championship in 2025. The series is being re-established for the new year as part of the governing body of British motorcycle sport’s plan to create a clear ladder of progression for the best young riders through their participation in ACU-affiliated championships.
The new MXGB British Youth Championship, which will be managed by experienced Race Director Colin Hambridge, will be contested across five rounds and at five different venues next season.
Each two-day event will feature Junior 65cc, Small Wheel 85cc, Big Wheel 85cc, and a Youth Open class, which for the first time will incorporate the new ACU British Women’s MX Championship. The British Youth 125cc Championship will become part of the MXGB series.
Colin Hambridge said: “It’s great to be able to announce the latest details about the new MXGB British Youth Championship because it gives competitors the chance to plan ahead for the new season.
“For me, the ACU’s decision to restructure the British youth model gives the clear pathway that’s needed for the best riders to progress through the British Championship and hopefully into European and World championship competition with the backing of the ACU.
“We want to develop British motocross world champions of the future and I’m excited and proud to be involved with delivering a new future for the sport we love.”
As well as reforming the British Youth Championship for 2025, the ACU has also confirmed a raft of other British Championship support classes will also run at British Youth Motocross events. This will include a brand-new ACU British Women’s MX Championship, the ACU British Clubman MX1, and the ACU British Clubman MX2 series.
Steve McCauley, Director of the ACU Motocross Commission, said: “A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to plan for 2025 and we’ve found an excellent home for the new British Youth Championship and supporting classes under the new team of Colin and Julie Hambridge and Christine Heathcote. We have placed these championships in extremely capable and enthusiastic hands and we’re looking forward to running events that are competitive, fun and enjoyable for riders and their families.”
