With his high-revving, spectacular skills, Jaime Busto – GASGAS is a natural showman and the twenty-six-year-old from Vizcaya in north-west Spain will once again be bringing his all-action attacking style to Sheffield’s Utilita Arena after signing up to compete at the DL12 Indoor Trial V3.0 on Saturday 18th January 2025.
A huge hit with the capacity crowds that packed the Utilita Arena for the first two editions of the DL12 Indoor Trial, Busto finished on the podium at both events – taking second in 2023 and third in January this year. On both occasions he ended the night just one mark behind his compatriot Adam Raga and, understandably, his focus is centred solely on the top step of the podium.
“I have finished on the podium at both editions of the DL12 Indoor Trial so Sheffield is very special for me, but what I really want is to win so that will be my mission in the New Year. I know it is something I can do, but I also know that the competition will be at a very high standard so it will not be easy.”
Busto’s credentials are impeccable and his position among the world’s elite Trial riders unarguable. Since winning the FIM Trial2 World Championship in 2014 he has established himself as a genuine threat to the great Toni Bou’s dominance. Vice-champion behind Bou in the indoor FIM X-Trial World Championship in 2023 and runner-up to him for the last two years in the outdoor TrialGP series, he is the only rider to defeat the legendary Spanish rider in either competition over the past two seasons.
With his already confirmed competition for the DL12 Indoor Trial V3.0 including Bou, Raga and British hero Toby Martyn, Busto is fully aware of the task ahead of him, but having previously beaten all three riders in X-Trial competition he also knows he has what it takes to claim his first Sheffield victory and is relishing the challenge.
“Sheffield is always a very big event for me. The atmosphere is amazing and the fans are so loud – they make me feel very welcome and encourage me to ride at my best. Because it is the first Trial of the year it is also a very good way to judge your level against the other riders and, of course, it is great to start the season off with a strong performance. The sections are tough and technical which is what I like.”
We know Busto has the skills to succeed in Steel City, the big question is can he fully utilise them when it really matters? While we will have to wait until the New Year for an answer, one thing is guaranteed and that is with more major names scheduled to be announced over the coming weeks, the DL12 Indoor Trial V3.0 is an event fans simply cannot afford to miss.
