Dan Bewley completed a hat-trick of British titles on a memorable night of racing at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium.
Home favourite Bewley triumphed in the Attis Insurance Sports Division British Final, getting the better of fellow GP regular Tai Woffinden with a terrific passing move entering the third lap of the deciding race.
In doing so, Bewley became the first rider since Woffinden himself in 2013-15 to take the national crown on three successive occasions.
Woffinden himself had reached the Final courtesy of a sensational last-to-first effort in the semi, whilst Tom Brennan completed the rostrum finishers and secured the Wild Card place for the British Grand Prix.
Former champion Chris Harris was just edged out of the top three whilst Steve Worrall and Adam Ellis missed out in the semi of an unpredictable meeting which saw one of the big favourites, Robert Lambert, finish outside the top six on countback.
Bewley said: “Three in a row is just awesome, and it’s such a cool meeting to come to. It’s one of the biggest meetings of the year for us, so to get three in a row is still surreal.
“Tai has got three in a row so for me to match that is pretty cool. He was in front in the Final and I knew it was going to be difficult to make something happen.
“But I just thought if I could stay on his back wheel and hope a door opens, and a little one did and I got through.
“Everything is coming round, little pieces, and I’m just getting that bit more consistent.”
