Graham Reeve 1952-2024

British Speedway is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former SCB referee and top official Graham Reeve.

Graham, who was 71, retired from the sport just under six years ago and has now passed away after a lengthy battle with ill health.

He was an all-round sportsman with a passion for both speedway and rugby union, where he was a staunch supporter of Worcester Warriors.

Graham began his speedway refereeing career in 1989 and took charge of all of the country’s major events whilst also holding a senior role within the SCB, and many of today’s most experienced referees will have benefited from his expertise.

He had a lengthy spell as SCB Prime Officer, overseeing all aspects of the sport in the UK, but also had a passion for youth development, which led to him fronting the Great Britain Under-21 set-up.

During his time in charge at that level, Graham brought on board Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher to act as coaches, with both moving on taking over senior positions in the sport, Vatcher then assuming responsibility for the flourishing British Youth series.

Graham refereed his final meeting at Birmingham in October 2018 but still continued to attend the sport locally when his health allowed.

We send our sincere condolences to Graham’s family and friends and pay tribute to a kind and jovial man who always had the sport at heart.
