Sunday 8th October sees the finale of the 2023 ACU Eastern Motocross Championship sponsored by Stebbings Car Superstore & PP Sports Insurance which taking place at Norwich Viking’s iconic circuit, Cadders Hill, Lyng.
There will be a 15 race programme with almost 200 riders including the biggest lineup of Expert riders since the beginning of the season, headed by 3 top Norwich Viking members, Calum Mitchell fresh from his points scoring ride at the MXGP of Great Britain at Matterley Basin, Declan Whittle who had a top 10 finish in the grueling Weston Beach Race on the same day as the MXGP and defending champion and current points leader, Luke Parker.
Shaun Southgate, 2018 champion and multi MX Nationals Expert Champion will certainly be up for spoiling the Viking’s party, as will Sam Nunn, now riding for Chambers Racing, who finished fifth at the Weston Beach Race.
In the Junior class, Charlie Nudds has a 37 point lead over Connor Bunkle with Shane Lock a further 22 points adrift. Race wins in this class have been spread amongst several of the top 10 championship contenders in the last three rounds. Joe Hall, Tim Warnes, Finley Jarvis or Jake Brown could be grabbing a hatful of points at Lyng.
This event also includes the penultimate round of the ever popular NGR Champion ship. Aaron Hopkins currently leads the over 30 class from Aaron Smith. Jake Morphey leads the over 40’s from Lewis Joyce. Arguably the most competitive class is the over 50’s where Gary Hoptrough leads Paul Hubbard followed by Mark Goodson. Former GP rider Hoptrough is within striking distance of overall leader of the series held at present by Hopkins with just 2 rounds remaining. Hopkins cannot afford to relax if he is to retain his championship aspirations.
Pop along to Lyng (NR9 5QZ) to see who is going to take the overall win on the day and who will be crowned 2023 champion. There will be a presentation to the top 3 in both the Expert & Junior Championships.
