Sadly, during the previous Friday's test day prior to this round of the championship 250cc National championship competitor Gary Arden lost his life in an accident. Back in 2018 Gary had finished in third place in the 125cc National Championship and in 2019 went one better and finished in second place behind Philip Atkinson. He then moved up to the National 250cc championship and finished in eighth place and fourth in the N G Cup class in 2021.He repeated his eighth place in the 250cc National championship last season.
Qualifying for round one was held in cloudy but dry weather conditions on the short Indy Circuit and it was Bobby Varey that was fastest in the National 250cc class on his TZ 250cc Yamaha, defending 250cc National champion Thomas Lawlor was missing this event due to funding. Fastest in the D T R Cup class was James Seath on his RS 250cc Honda and Former National 125cc champion Gavin Mills was fastest in the National 125cc class on his RS 125cc Honda.
Race one
Bobby Varey led and by the start of the second lap extended his lead as a great three way dice developed between James Seath, Chris Moore and Simon Hunt for second place. Bobby Varey won the race and set the fastest lap of the race in a time of 51.88 seconds and a speed of 83.81 mph. Simon Hunt finished in second place and Chris Moore in third place. James Seath won the D T R Cup class with Sean Morrison in second place and Phil Ellis in third place. Gavin Mills took victory in the National 125cc class and set the fastest lap of the race in a time of 55.57 seconds and a speed of 78.24 mph. Mark Tyrrell finished in second and Sian Brooks in third place.
Race 2
Was held in drizzle and wet weather conditions Anthony Johnson led most of the race with Varey in second place but in the closing stages Varey snatched the race win from Anthony Johnson by just 0.43 of a second. Varey again set fastest lap of the race in a time of 57.34 seconds and a speed of 75.83 mph. Simon Hunt finished in third place. James Seath made it two wins from two in the D T R Cup class he was followed across the line by Andrew Glasgow in second and Joe Woodward in third. Simon Hunts son Spencer won the National 125cc race on his TZ 125cc Yamaha ahead of Sian Brooks on her RS 125cc Honda.
Race 3
Saw the track drying out in places, Anthony Johnson led from start to finish along with the fastest lap of the race in a time of 55.72 seconds and a speed of 78.04 mph, Varey finished in second place and Chris Moore finished in third. Michael Waring took victory in the D T R Cup class with James Seath in second and Andrew Glasgow in third place. Spencer Hunt notched up his second victory of the day in the 125cc National race along with the fastest lap of the race in a time of 1 minute 03.47 seconds and a speed of 68.51 mph and Sian Brooks in second place.
