After winning Saturday round four of the National Championship, Danny Cockerill continued his good form by putting his bike on top of the field 8.5066. just ahead of his teammate Dan De’ath 8.5069. Saturday’s number one qualifier Michael Piggott was next 8.515. Gary Malone edged Stacey Reed 8.523 to 8.525 for fourth spot with Andrew Christophi 8.527 and Alan Morrison 8.529 close bye.
Round one saw one of the top seven knocked out and that was De’ath who lost to Alex Gordon. Into round two and Morrison broke out against Gordon. Reed also broke out 8.478 to Bradley Head who debut his new Jake Mechaell built bike. Piggott was back on trailer after racing Andy Haley. Malone left before the tree ran against Jay Roe. Roe ended Cockerill weekend in round three. Head beat Gordon and had a bye to the final. Christophi won on a holeshot over Haley. Semi-final saw Christophi break out against Roe. It was a dream start for Head on his new bike winning round five when both riders broke out. Roe 8.360 and Head 8.479.
9.50 Bike.
Reigning Champion Richard Sawatzki led the field after qualifying 9.536. Dion Hartley was next 9.549 followed by Philip Harrison 9.557 and Brett Cordelle 9.565. Carl Thomas had a chain break just off the start line. Sawatzki reached the final when both opponents, in round one Andy Head red lit and in round two Harrison red lit. On the other side of the ladder Cordelle beat Rob Stanley and then won on a holeshot against Hartley 9.570 to Hartley quicker 9.539. Sawatzki led from start to finish 9.803 to Cordelle 9.975.
ET Bike.
The number one qualifying spot changed three times in the final qualifying session. First it was Dave Grundy then came Andrew Burfitt on his stunning Kawasaki and finally Alan Davies who normally competes on his nitro burning Puma V Twin in the fuel class. Gary Hester was fourth and Matt Jones rounded off the top five.
Both Jones and Burfitt were eliminated in round one. Hester red lit against Peter Harrison in round two. Davies was the next rider to red lit against Harrison in round three. Grundy also lost in this round to Michael Gooding, who had a bye to the final. Reigning Champion Phil Pratt ended Harrison weekend in the semi-finals. Pratt pulled a red light in the final, leaving Gooding to go to the winners circle.
