It was a heated weekend at FatCat Moto Parc with the sun blazing down and a jam-packed schedule of racing there is a lot to unfold. The revamped track saw all the classes race throughout the weekend.
It was the second round of the season for the 65cc class where we saw Marty Spires battle head to head with wildcard Thai, Brian Gyles, who pulled through with a clean sweep with first place in every race, the Kecks Fastest Lap with 2:14.633 over six seconds faster than any other rider in the group. Gyles also walked away with the SCOTT Sport rider of the weekend and rightly so. Following Spires was Harley Marzak who took the 24MX holeshot, Arthur Moore and Riley Ray-Barrow who all had a brilliant weekend fighting within the top five.
The SW85 class really put on a great performance this weekend. Hayden Statt led the pack in race one taking the Kecks fastest lap, similarly in race two he led the race, dropping off in the third with Joel Winstanley-Dawson taking the full points in first. Despite this, Statt took the 24MX holeshot in race three and bounced back during the final race of the weekend. It was a consistent weekend for Sonny Rooney coming second overall, three points ahead of Robbie Daly in third who also had a consistent ride this weekend.
It was a similar situation in the BW85 class for Billy Askew, who rode superb with race wins in race one, two and four as well as collecting the 24MX holeshot in race three and the Kecks Fastest Lap in race one. The GRT Impact KTM rider has now extended his lead 46 points ahead of Jake Walker who was third on the podium at this round. Second on the podium and with his first race win of the season was Josh Vail.
At this round of the Championship, we saw the 125cc and 250cc class line up together for a more action-packed race. Charlie Heyman put up a fight to continue his win streak into Whitby, and he sure did. Heyman walked through the races with top position and the Kecks Fastest Lap. Cole Mccullough and Ben Mustoe battled throughout the weekend for that second-place spot on the podium with Mustoe performing better on the Saturday and Mccullough on the Sunday. The final push for Cole on the Sunday tipped it over with a five-point lead and second overall.
The 250cc class was dominated by Tyler Westcott, who was leading without challenge in all four races over the weekend and placed top on the podium with the Kecks Fastest Lap Award. Jak Taylor picked up a solid 80 points over the weekend with consistent racing and a few battles with Team Green rider Hudson Roper. Callum Murfitt picked up the 24mx holeshot in the third race of the weekend.
It was another exciting round for the MX2 class. With Mewses’ main competition Isak out for the remainder of the season, he was feeling more confident than ever. Finishing first in qualifying set him up for a good day of racing. Within four laps Mewse was leading the pack in race one, comfortably battling Kay Karssemakers but keeping him at bay. Whilst this was happening SC Sporthomes new recruit Jorgen Matthias Talviku was climbing his way through the pack overtaking enduro rider Todd Kellet, expert winner James Carpenter and Karssemakers, challenging championship leader Mewse for the last laps of the race. Despite his best efforts Talviku finished second. It was a similar story in the second race with Karssemakers leading for the first quarter to then be overtaken by Mewse and Talviku. Kay finishing second behind Mewse but in front of Talviku. Conrad took top step claiming the Kecks Fastest lap and 24MX holeshot with Talviku making his debut and Karssemakers in third.
It is becoming heated in the MX1 class this season. With no clear leader so far it leaves Searle, Kullas, Simpson and Gilbert with 70 point difference between the four riders it leaves no room for errors in the final two rounds. It was again the battle of Kullas and Searle at FatCat. Kullas stormed through the pack after finishing fifth in qualifying followed closely by Searle who was hot on his heels for the last five laps of the first race. John Adamson put up a great battle between the two front runners, grabbing the Kecks Fastest Lap and finishing third overall in race one. During moto two of the weekend the racing intensified between Kullas and Searle, making for some great viewing. With some speed and controversial moves tommy finished out on top after an overtake in the 13th lap. Wildcard and KTM SA rider Triston Purdon missed out on the podium by six points and Expert winner Martin Barr finished sixth.
