The Auto-Cycle Union is deeply saddened to announce that Lt Col Ted Bartlett passed away early yesterday (Tuesday 5
th July). He put up a brave fight against Covid which he overcame, but then recently he succumbed to Cancer.
The ACU was honoured to have Ted as Chairman from 1997 – 2003, President from 2004 – 2008 and ACU Honorary Vice President from 2016, but his involvement with Enduro and particularly the ISDE, spanned many more years.
His association with the Army MCA will long be remembered, together with the effort and support he gave to the Army Team in the ISDE as their Manager.
Ted went on to be elected as first Vice President of FIM Europe and later Vice President of FIM. In the latter role FIM President Mr Zerbi asked him to keep a watching brief over Enduro and the ISDE in particular.
Ted was a much admired and respected character. Smart, confident and outspoken, he made an impression on everyone he came into contact with.
Past Trials & Enduro Chairman Frank Carter, commented -:
“The time and years that (Ted) has put into motorcycling generally and particularly the ISDE is immeasurable and leaves a lasting legacy His support and work within the ACU were always well received and equally applied to his efforts on the International scene “
These sentiments are echoed by John Collins, former T&E Chairman and current FIM CEN Director who worked with Ted over many years
Our thoughts are with his wife Avril and all his family members. Ted was indeed one of the ACU ‘s most memorable characters. May he rest in peace.
