Having received one surprise presentati
on to mark his retirement after forty years’ ‘in charge’ of the Southern 100 Road Races, Clerk of Course Peter was even more dumbfounded when he was presented with an engraved silver salva by his Deputy Clerks of Course, Ruth Costain and Andy Clark.
Andy has been an Assistant and Deputy Clerk of Course since 2002, with Ruth joining the Southern 100 Racing organisation in 2016 as a Deputy Clerk Course have collaborated closely with Peter not only during the practices and races, but also countless hours of committee and race related meetings took the decision that his dedication and friendship should be recognised in a small visual way.
Andy Said: ‘Peter has been a resolute Clerk of Course and has carried out his duties in a professional manner, setting a fixing example to others around him and those who will take on the task in the future.
‘His knowledge of the regulations is to the fore and he has earned the respect of fellow officials and riders over the years and whilst we have had some sad times as a team, such is our sport, most of the times have been enjoyable with many memories made over the years.
‘From Ruth and I, Happy Retirement as Clerk of the Course of the friendly races.’
