After missing two years due to the Covid Pandemic preparations are under way for Team GB to send two teams to Mettet Belgium for the Supermoto of Nations on 30 & 31 July.
A committee has been formed to select riders for this year’s senior and junior teams, comprising of multiple British Champion Chris Hodgson, ultra-experienced rider Andy Mitchell, NoraSport’s David Dearden and Robin Brown and under the independent chairmanship of Oliver’s Mount Racings’ Andy Hayes. Andy Mitchell will take on the role of Team Manager, with Robin acting as his assistant with the responsibility of looking after the Junior Team.
A short list of riders has been drawn up based on current form, fitness, eligibility, machine availability, technical suitability, and character. In the next few days, the selected riders will be contacted and asked if available and both teams will be announced as soon as possible. After the selected riders have accepted, the teams will be submitted to the ACU for approval and forwarding on to the FIM
To compete at this level is a huge financial commitment and the Team are actively looking for financial and product support. The emphasis this year will be making sure the team have the correct resources to do the job on the track, particularly with tyres.
Team Manager Andy Mitchell commented “It’s a great honour for me to be asked to manage the 2022 team. To select a team will be difficult and we will no doubt disappoint somebody as there are at least six senior riders and a similar number of Juniors that warrant inclusion, but we can only choose three riders for each team. I think the fact that I’m still competing at the sharp end of the British Championship and know Mettet well will help with the Team selection.”
