Press Release -
The ACU Track Racing Committee (TRC) have recently received confirmation from Midshires Grass Track Club advising that reluctantly they are unable to stage the 2022 FIME Individual Grass Track Final – which was scheduled to take place on Sunday 7th August 2022 at their Fosse Way venue near Leamington Spa.
Having originally been awarded the event in 2020, the intervention of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic forced the meeting to be put on hold until this year.
Unfortunately, the continued fall out from Covid-19 within the UK has had a dramatic effect on businesses and consequently has seriously affected the necessary financial support available from sponsors essential for staging such a high calibre race meeting.
Combined with the facts that several members of the club, key to the organisation of the event, have for various reasons moved to pastures new, and receiving confirmation about the impending installation of solar panels on the land used as the venue, has meant that unfortunately the staging of the event is no longer viable either financially or practically.
Midshires Grass Track Club would like to sincerely thank all of their sponsors, friends and helpers for their continued support and will be working hard to source a new venue and return to promoting Grass Track events in the near future.
However, on a positive note Graham Hurry and his team at the Astra Grass Track Club, have kindly offered to host this prestigious event at their Swingfield venue (near Folkestone), in the South East of England on a new date of Sunday 16th October.
Neither the Astra Club or the Swingfield circuit are strangers to hosting European championship events, with the club previously organising European Semi Finals and the Final itself at the Swingfield venue.
ACU TRC Chairman Tony Steele commented that the Track Racing Committee fully appreciate the disappointment that the Midshires Chairman and Committee must feel having to decline the opportunity to stage the final – due largely to a situation beyond their control, however at the same time express their gratitude to Graham Hurry, his team at Astra together with his sponsor, Kite Haulage Ltd, in responding so quickly to ensure that Grass Track fans with retain the opportunity to witness this major final in the UK.
