Foxhill was greeted by beautiful sunshine on easter bank holiday weekend, and what a weekend it was. The track was prepped perfectly, and the layout promoted some fantastic racing through all classes.
Harri Kullas came out firing in the morning posting the fastest lap in timed qualifying proving he was the man to beat on the day. Harri backed this up by taking a convincing win in race 1 leading from start to finish. Race 2 was more difficult for Harri as defending champion Tommy Searle had grabbed the lead on lap 1 leaving Kullas with work to do. The Cabscreens Crescent Yamaha rider threw everything at the brit, but Searle defended his lead to the flag granting him the second moto win. Kullas took the overall win with a 1-2 scorecard leaving Searle with second overall after posting a 3-1 scorecard. Josh Gilbert rode really well all day showing the speed he has this season however a couple of small mistakes kept him out of the battle at the front. Gilbert still managed to walk away with a podium and valuable points towards his title campaign.
Reigning Champion and your current Championship leader, Conrad Mewse, started his day off the only way he knows how, by qualifying on pole with a blistering time and dominating race 1. Conrad looked impossible to beat, however, the racing gods had other plans. The gate dropped for race two and Mewse got tangled up in a first turn pile up leaving him third from last by the time he got going. The fans were in for a treat as they were about to witness Conrad dice through the pack in one of the best British Championship comeback rides in recent memory. Mewse fought and clawed his way up to the front and with 2 laps to go passed Jamie Carpenter for an incredible race win. The drama didn’t end there though, it was deemed after the race that Conrad was handed a 10-place penalty for a pass he made on another rider leaving the 426 with a 1-5 scorecard and 5th overall. Jamie Carpenter rode fantastically all weekend leading the second moto convincingly until two laps from the flag. Carpenter's scores on the weekend granted him the overall win which was very well deserved. Hitachi KTM rider, Isak Gifting, grabbed the second spot on the podium securing valuable points for his title campaign. Fellow Hitachi KTM rider Kay Kassermakers took home 3rd overall on his return to racing following an injury closely followed by Tom Grimshaw who must be mentioned following his 2nd place finish in race 2, this young man is finding his feet in this hotly contested MX2 class.
In the 250cc class, Travis Steels grabbed the holeshot in race 1 and didn’t look back, the BDR Ansa Tech rider controlled the pace and held off the hard charging Tyler Westcott to take the win. Drama in race two changed the narrative as on the sighting lap Travis experienced bike problems delaying his return to the start leaving him with the last gate pick. Travis was buried in the pack after turn 1 and made too many mistakes to get back to the front. Tyler Westcott dominated the race with a very sizable lead by the time he crossed the finish line, the 2-1 scorecard gifted Tyler top step on the podium again. Team Green Kawasaki rider Jak Taylor put two very solid performances together to grab himself second overall for the day. Jak is starting to find some form so keep an eye out for him for the remainder of the season. A wildcard in the class for the weekend, Ollie Colmer, took home 3rd overall on his GRT Impact KTM 125cc machine.
Possibly the fan favourite class of the weekend, the Big wheel 85cc riders did not disappoint. Two young riders, in particular, put on quite the show this Easter weekend. Jake Walker and Billy Askew went toe to toe every single lap of both races. Billy managed to steal the win in the first moto after a long fought battle. Race two started out with Jake leading early and just like moto 1, Billy Askew managed to find a way through. Walker, determined not to have a repeat of the race 1 result dug even deeper and threw everything at Billy for the last few laps and with one corner to go dove down the inside to take a dramatic win. Jake Walker took the overall after the better race 2 result with Billy Askews taking home second overall. With all the drama going on up front Josh Vail was able to put in 2 solid races to grab himself 3rd overall. These riders provided us with some fantastic racing and will sure to be battling all season long.
The Small Wheel class was dominated from start to finish by the rocket, Robbie Daly, who took both race wins gifting him the overall. Robbie was followed by Hayden Statt who showed real speed and ended his weekend with second overall. Liam bell rounded his weekend off by getting himself the final spot on the podium.
