With Easter Weekend fast approaching, riders and teams from the ACU British Supermoto Championship are busy preparing for a spectacular opening to their race season.
All taking place at the legendary home of Supermoto, Three Sisters Wigan on Good Friday where a series of opening races will see the newly introduced all tarmac series take off, along with Bambino Training Races, Give it a Go Class (Novice), Mini Bikes and Superlites practice.
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April
Expert classes along with Nationals will go ahead on the Saturday and the full ACU British Championships on the Sunday. There isn’t any doubt that after the recent Warm Up Event riders will be revved up and ready to get the full race season underway.
Heading into the 2022 Championship last years titleholder Jordan Bannon will be proudly displaying the red number one plate on his DCR 450 SMR KTM and will be for sure be faced with some fearsome competition from the likes of Jay Smith (HGR Honda), Chris Hodgson (LSP Husqvarna), Jamie Duncan (Trevor Pope KTM) and many others from last year’s top ten finishes.
The 2021 Championship went down to a thrilling action-packed finale at Cadwell Park which witnessed Bannon clinch the ACU British Supermoto Championship by just nine points. It was also a landmark achievement for the young Wigan Rider Casey Jones who at just 15 years of age recorded the highest ever Elite Championship finish for someone so young, coming in at seventh position.
Ninth spot is also worth a mention as Tom Laycock (Automotive Solutions) started his Supermoto journey just a handful of years ago by taking part in specific Supermoto track day, and now has shown such fantastic progress he has earned himself a well-deserved place in the current top ten.
Let’s not forget though, there are many riders just outside the top ten who over the course of last year have demonstrated outstanding improvement and could soon be knocking on the door of the front runners.

Superlites
There is also plenty of action taking place for you four-wheel fans out there with the rapid Superlites taking to the circuit on Friday, Sat and Sunday including the use of the off-road sections. For those uninitiated to the sport these machines can out accelerate most, if not all modern supercars and have been known to set faster or equal lap times around a ‘rallycross’ circuit quicker than a modern-day World RallyCross Car.!
