ACU South Midland are very sad to let you know that Bob Twigg, one of our longest serving Members and riders passed away on Monday evening.
He rode trials from the early 1960’s, and was always a good club rider, only stopping in the last ten years; he rode a selection of bikes, some good, some not so good; last bike being a ‘Beta’ if I remember.
Bob was a Centre Vice President, and he attended and his voice was heard at almost every meeting from the mid 1990’s. As Centre Steward he attended many Championship Trials to see fair play and an even playing field for all, giving advice where needed, as he did when Stewarding Motocross events, both of which he did for around 20 years until the beginning of this year. Bob was Secretary of the Meteor Group in the South Midlands, a position he held since the 80’s and whom he represented on the Management Committee. He was Secretary of Kenton and Kingsbury MCC again for 20 odd years, and before that the Mid Herts Motorcycle Club and Federation of Police motor cycle clubs representing them across the country along with secretary of the Centre Trials Committee, which he sat on for many years. He also supported Enduro and Car Rally teams with the same enthusiasm and passion. In recent years editor of the Sporting Motorcyclist.
But he was so much more than any of those jobs or positions, with his experience which he offered without compromise, he was always the one guy that clubs, and riders turned to for help and advice. Every email or response that has come in from his many friends and there have been dozens, says he was a lovely guy, always a smile, always a chat and a joke.
To quote one that says it all... “Such a sad loss, Bob was a real gentleman. Always with a smile and a sense of humour, coupled with a wealth of motorcycle knowledge, he will be really missed,
We were honoured to have been his friends.
Bob Twigg Rest in Peace
