All Welcome for Round 5 at Darley Moor

The Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club are ready to welcome competitors and spectators once again on Sunday 11th July 2021, at the Darley Moor Motorsport Centre, near Ashbourne (DE6 2ET), in what is hopefully the final meeting with Covid-19 restrictions in place. This should be Round 5 of the 2021 Championship, but with Round 1 not able to go ahead due to the pandemic, round 2 in early April was the first opportunity for riders to get points ‘on the board’, the points scoring races were washed out at Round 3, so the only other opportunity for any points was the previous Round on 20th June in near perfect weather conditions. So, with all this in mind Round 5 only takes competitors towards the midway point in this year’s championship and again many local competitors are in with a shout of both silverware and high positions in the championship tables.

Firstly, and hopefully for the final time please note the current conditions are in place:

1. Spectators can now attend Race Meetings only. There is still no spectator access to Track Days or Test Days.

2. Spectators must not attend if they have any signs or symptoms of Covid-19, or they are isolating.

3. All tickets must be purchased in advance there is no payment on the gate. Go to www.darleymoor.co.uk

4. There is no spectator camping available at the venue.

5. You must obey the rule of 30 with no groups of more than 30 permitted.

6. There is NO spectator access to the Paddock.

7. Certain areas will be closed on race days.

8. Spectators are advised to wear face coverings and observe the social distancing rules.

9. Spectators are advised to make use of the hand sanitisers available around the venue.

10. A take - away food service will be available.

Back to the racing side of things and a small change in the race format for this Round, rather than a mixture of six, eight and ten lap races next Sunday the eighteen races will all be ten lappers and if, all goes to plan there will still be plenty of time to get home in time to watch the European Football Final, if the England team get through.

However, a quick glance at the Championship standings shows several local racers to cheer on and help in their quest for silverware in the various championship classes.

Jamie Hanks-Elliott (Birmingham) and David Glossop (Wilmslow) head the Junior A and Senior Championships respectively, whilst Freddie Oakley (Chesterfield) is just 2points adrift of the Junior B Championship top spot.

David Bradley (Matlock) has a 7point advantage over Martin Powell (Telford) in the Classic and Forgotten Era 501cc -1300cc Championship.

Andy Whale (Birmingham) has a 9point lead in the Lightweight Championship, but multiple Champion, Chris Moore (High Peak) returns to the circuit and is sure to be challenging for top honours this weekend.

2019 Champion Mark Brailsford (Chesterfield) is currently 3rd in the Honda CB500/Suzuki Bandit Championship and with no entry received from either rider above him, has a chance of getting back to the top of the standings.

David Carson (Northwich) is also 3rd in the Formula 600 standings but can only close in on the top spot with a 17point deficit to the head of table. Carson will also be trying to reduce the 6point difference between himself and current leader of the 700cc Twins Championship, Jim Hodson (Wigan).

Ben Dale (Warrington) will be aiming to maintain his 100% record so far this season and take his third point scoring victory in the Pre-Electronic 600/750 Twin class, enjoying a 6point advantage in the top spot.

Currently tying on points in 2nd place in the Open Solo class Ash Stone (Matlock) and Mark Goodings (Doncaster) will be battling to become Championship leader when they leave the circuit next week, both riders on 18points, 12points behind the title leader Josh Daley (Wigan).

Adam Walters (Derby) currently enjoys a 2point advantage at the top of table over Carl Morris (Etwall) in the Pre-Injection Solo class

Leaders in the Open Sidecar class, Steve Thomas/Danny Lewis (Rockferry/Saughall Massie will be defending the 9point advantage over Keith Waddington/Mick Storey (Barnsley/Spalding Moor), whilst Howard Baker/Mike Killingsworth (Sutton Coldfield/Washingborough), at the time of writing, will be looking to take advantage of their adversary not entering, yet.

Please note with the Covid restrictions in place all Spectator tickets to be ordered prior to meeting at www.darleymoorstore.co.uk.

Adult £13.00 Seniors £10.00 (No overnight camping) if purchased before 9.00 am on Saturday after which the Price £16.00 Adults and £12.00 Seniors
