After the cancellation of six consecutive race meetings at Anglesey since the start of 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the severe lockdown rules introduced by the Welsh Government, the Wirral Hundred club is delighted to confirm that its next race meeting planned for 31st July & 1st August should go ahead.
Both the Anglesey circuit and the Club were surprised by the unexpected leap in the relaxation of the lockdown rules, which seem from today (7th June) to allow 4,000 socially-distanced people (previously 50) to attend ‘regulated outdoor events’ in Wales.
The previous limit meant that on 25th May the Club cancelled its race meeting scheduled for 26th & 27th June, and unfortunately this significant change of approach by the Welsh authorities comes too late for that June meeting to be re-instated, firstly because the circuit has re-sold part of the weekend hire for testing and track-day activities, and secondly because many of the Club’s riders, officials, marshals and medics now have alternative commitments that weekend.
The Club will continue to monitor Covid- and lockdown-related statements by the Welsh authorities for the next two weeks but expects to publish its regulations and entry forms for its race meetings on 31st July & 1st August, and 9th & 10th October, on or about 25th June.
