Dan Gilkes will travel to the FIM European Under-19 Final in August – at this stage in a reserve position.
GB and Kent youngster Gilkes finished a highly creditable sixth in Saturday’s Hungarian-staged qualifier, scoring ten points on his first-ever appearance in Europe.
He said: “Although my goal was a top-five finish, I was very happy with my debut in Europe. To win two races and to score in every heat was more than I could have wished for before the meeting.
“Even though I missed out on full qualification, a lot can happen between now and August, and I will go to Latvia as one of the reserves - but who knows, maybe even a place in the 16 by the time the Final comes around.”
