The Welsh Motorcycle Federation desperately needs an injection of new blood, with the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer all wishing to retire, yes, they are that old and they cannot go on forever, because of the pandemic it has seen them continue extra one year already.
What does the WMF do?
Well on the face of it runs Welsh Championships for trials and Enduros under normal circumstances, enter teams in the International Six Days Enduro and Scottish Six Day Trial under their Motorcycle Club of Wales banner.
Most of their work goes on behind the scenes, they are the only motorcycle body recognised with Sport Wales and the Welsh Government, dealing with Elite Cymru grants for our Talented Athletes, grants for clubs, legislation concerning our sport, land access, negotiations with NRW (Forestry Commission) training and promotion of motorcycle sport, all this goes on to allow you to ride your bike, it is not glamorous but vital work.
Over the years talented motorcyclists have received over a £1million of support from Sport Wales through the Elite Cymru scheme to fulfill their dreams of becoming European and World Champions in all disciples of the sport. This highlights the good work the Federation does.
What has the Federation Achieved?
In the 70 years since the federation was formed as the Cambrian Council the organisation has built from humble beginning almost entirely based in South Wales to clubs and riders throughout Wales. In promoting motorcycle sport countless Welsh riders have become British Champions and excelled into European and World champions, punching well above our weight. On the organising side we have supported clubs to run World Championship events in Trials, Enduros and Moto Cross not forgetting hosting the International Six Days Enduro (Trial), helped clubs and venues with grants to resurface road racing tracks and buying their own land.
Who’s needed?
Basically, we are looking for an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic person/s to take on the role of chairman or of secretary, who can take up the WMF mantle and drive the Federation forward, the old guard realise that they need to utilise the modern media resources available, however, age is not on their side, so it needs younger blood to inject enthusiasm into the Federation. Also, we need a Treasurer to look after the financial affairs of the WMF, the day-to-day accounts and any grant applications. The present encumbrances will be happy to provide support and advice to assist with the smooth handover of duties if required.
So, are you up for a challenge? Are you dedicated and in for long term, our aspirations are going to take time to achieve. If you don’t fancy it, do you know someone who would be ideal for the job, let us know and we’ll approach them.
For more information about the roles and how to apply please contact either Bryan Puckett or Malcolm Bates.
