George Stephenson passed away on the morning of 22nd March. He had been suffering from a series of illnesses since Christmas and had fought off both covid-19 and pneumonia, but it left him very weak and his heart stopped early on Monday morning.
George was chairman of the ACU youth division in the late 1980’s and early 90’s and he competed in most forms of the sport in his early life, later on in sidecar trials where with daughter Barbara he was North West Centre champion.
He will however be best remembered for his support and organisation within the sport whether as clerk of the course or ACU steward at many events. In the words of his friends from the era “A great stalwart of Bolton MCC and the North West Centre ACU, a building block of our sport whose commitment and dedication will always be remembered”.
