Wirral 100 confirms that its first race meeting of 2021 will take place at Oulton Park on Saturday 24th April; this is on the assumption that there are no adverse changes to the Coronavirus lockdown rules for sporting events in England.
The severe lockdown rules in Wales mean that currently the Anglesey Circuit is unable to commit to race events in the early part of 2021. The Club has sought to organise a pre-season Test Day and New Riders’ Course in late March, and, assuming there will be some easing of the lockdown rules by next summer, to switch its normal first race weekend at the Circuit from March to May. These proposals have been put on hold by the Circuit, until hopefully the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are, in fact, eased, and it can confidently publish a Calendar for those early months.
The Circuit and the Club are assuming that life in Wales will be back to more normal levels in the remaining months of 2021, and, on this basis, the following W100 race weekends have been confirmed by the Circuit – 26th & 27th June; 31st July & 1st August, with the Anglesey Grand meeting planned for 9th & 10th October.
So in summary, we have four race weekends with dates confirmed provisionally, and plans afoot to organise, if possible, a Test Day and New Riders’ Course in March and a further race meeting in May. Like all motorsport clubs, however, we need Covid-19 to be brought under better control than at present, and to then comply with the latest government, hospital and sporting guidelines.
In the meantime we send all our members – officials, marshals, riders and their families - our best wishes for the winter months: stay healthy, continue to support us, and hopefully we can return to some sort of normality and go racing again next season.
