In the first of our four class reviews from the weekend, a look at the ACU Trial Expert class is very interesting as the final round approaches in just twelve days time. Whilst four riders have a mathematical chance of lifting the title, in reality it is just two, with Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) and Sam Yeomans (Vertigo) separated by just three points following the two Devon rounds at the weekend.
We have already reported the atrocious driving rain and wind which storm Alex through at the event, but by virtue of his two wins, coupled with two best lap bonus points, Thorpe has now edged out a two point lead over his main rival, Yeomans. Effectively, if we discount the best lap bonus points which will still be up for grabs, it will be winner takes all!
Lloyd Price (Gas Gas) currently sits third with a 4 - 4 result at the weekend, but Tom Affleck (Sherco) has shot up the standings with two podium positions. Seven times World Champion, Emma Bristow (Sherco) showed why she is the Queen of Trials with a brace of fifth position finishes in conditions much different to her recent European exploits. Devon rider, Connor Atkinson (TRRS) continued his consistent form with two sixth place finishes, which included a best lap bonus point.
Our picture shows Dan Hemingway (Beta) on the rugged hillside of section five, who slipped to eighth in the series with Gwynedd Jones (Beta) taking the advantage by a single point.
The final showdown will take place on Saturday 17th October at Elton in Derbyshire.
