Great Britain’s Robert Lambert leads the Speedway Euro Championship with one round to go after a sensational display in Gniezno on Thursday.
Lambert won the fourth event of the series in spectacular style, dropping just one point from six rides and sealing his triumph by overhauling former Eastbourne and Poole man Timo Lathi in the Final.
And having trailed Leon Madsen by six points overall going into the meeting, King’s Lynn favourite Lambert gained a welcome bonus when the Dane failed to reach the Final and was limited to nine points on the night.
Lambert racked up 17, meaning he is two clear of Madsen ahead of the decider in Torun next Wednesday – with the series winner also guaranteed a Grand Prix place for 2021.
Said Lambert: “It was a great success today, and it was a great performance on a little tricky track.
“We slowly got the bike set-up better and better. In the last couple of meetings I’ve been struggling and going backwards with the set-up, but today we were going forwards, and it shows we’re learning as we’re going.
“The nice material had built up on the outside and it was still there even after the track grading, so I managed to build up enough speed and I think Timo made a little mistake on the inside.
”That just allowed me to get the wheels in line and get past him. It was obviously a close race and enjoyable for everyone watching.”
