Following the recent Virtual meetings of the ACU Motocross Committee and supported by the ACU Board of Directors and Gareth Hockey of RHL the British Team Co-ordinator for Team GB at the FIM World Junior Championship, the decision has been made not to send an ACU team for the 2020 event.
With the event due to take place at Megalopolis, Greece on the 8th – 9th of August 2020 all parties believe that with the continued uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 around the World at the moment the best decision is not to send an ACU Federation team to this year’s FIM Junior World MX Championship.
Collectively they feel that planning and sending our youth riders to Greece at this time is just too much of a stress on families and the potential risk is still too great, while all the planning and costs related to it could surmount to nothing as there is currently no certainty that the event would still take place.
Speaking on behalf of the ACU Ltd Board of Directors, ACU Chairman Roy Humphrey said “It's a welcome decision by the relevant parties because of the uncertainty around so many factors like International travel and transport, the pressure on families finances and health concerns. We'll try to make sure we return to the event in 2021 when this terrible pandemic is over and behind us.”
Gareth Hockey from RHL Activities said “I feel with the uncertainly with the COVID-19 outbreak across the world. The safety of riders, staff and families is the upmost importance and I feel the decision to not send a team this year to Greece was the correct one with so many factors to consider, but we will be back at the event in 2021 stronger as ever.”
