The ACU has sadly learnt of the passing of former ISDE Trophy Team Manager Peter Wilson, known to everyone as Jock, He was the Team Manager from 1984 to 1995 prior to this he had been Team Manager for the Scottish ACU at the ISDE. A big man and an even bigger character, he will be remembered fondly by those who worked with him on the ISDE at the ACU.
Born in Glen Lyon, Perthshire in 1934 he came South when called up for National Service to serve at Aldershot where he competed with many of the works riders of the 50’s who had also been drafted. Having met his wife Pat, he remained in the South becoming part of the famous Comerfords sporting dealership where he regularly competed in trials with annual trips home to compete in the “Scottish” along with International Six Days. In the 1967 he took the Over 350cc Cup in the SSDT riding one of Sammy Miller’s old 497cc Ariels.
A superb mechanic, he specialised in lightening AJS trials machines in the early sixties at Comerfords before becoming a major part at sister company Bultaco UK and following the demise of Bultaco became the importer of SWM into the country.
Becoming the British Team Manager he passed on his considerable experience to many young riders that came into the team in more than a decade at the helm.
The ACU would like to pass on their condolences to wife Pat and his family and friends at this difficult time.
