McCanney extends BEC points lead at Lakeland 2 Day Enduro
This weekend saw the BEC contingent head to Cumbria for the Lakeland 2 Day Enduro. Pre-race favourite Danny McCanney made his intentions clear from the first test taking a 3 second test win from Dan Mundell and Alex Snow. Danny then continued to extend his lead in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lap, however it was Alex Snow who won the last test of the day from Dan Mundell. A friendly rivalry saw Snow and Mundell head into special test 5 with just 0.3 seconds splitting the two, however the Gas Gas rider pulled it out of the bag in the last test taking 3.5 seconds out of Sherco mounted Mundell who was 2nd fastest on the final lap. Snow even set the fastest test of the day on the last lap which was very impressive.

At the end of the first day it was TM Factory Racing’s Danny McCanney taking his third victory of the season, with Gas Gas Factory/UK’s Alex Snow taking his third consecutive P2 of the season, 12.5 seconds behind Danny, and in third it was Sherco Factory Racing/MRS’s Dan Mundell who made his return to British Championship racing after a long spell off of the bike with injury. Jack Edmondson aboard the Sherco Factory Racing/MRS/Fast Eddy Racing machine came home in 4th while Jed Etchells on the MRS Sherco was 5th.

Heavy overnight rain saw test times much slower on day 2 but it was McCanney who set the early pace once again. By lap 2 the test had seriously deteriorated and McCanney hit the ground and lost some valuable time to Jack Edmondson, leaving him with about a 1 second lead headed into the third and final lap. Edmondson set out on the last test and put his head down to set the fastest time of the day and take his first ever overall victory. McCanney was 3 seconds behind Edmondson on the last test and finished in 2nd overall. Dan Mundell was 2 seconds behind McCanney on the last test and also finished in third overall. Jed Etchells was 4th while Alex Snow finished 5th despite a slight administrative error where he dropped a minute and potentially lost himself another podium result.

In the Expert class it was a standout ride for Harry Edmondson who took his new KTM to a solid 1-1 scorecard. It was Aaron Gordon on the Sherco who took 2nd overall behind Harry on Day 1, and he backed that up with a 3rd place finish on day 2. It was Henry Yardley who beat Gordon to P2 on day 2 after a slightly disappointing day 1. Roger Holland did well on day 1 finishing 3rd and again on day 2 finishing 4th and young Charlie Chater finished a very respectable 5th on day 2. It was Gav Houson who nabbed 4th place on day 1 and Ben Murphy 5th.

The Clubman Class saw the 125 rider James Palmer take the victory on day 1. He took a slim margin of victory of just 3 seconds from another 125 rider, Scott Altass. In third was Josh Kirby on a 250f. Day 2 saw Kirby up his game and the tricky conditions seemed to suit him as he took the victory with an 8 second buffer over young Alfie Webb in 2nd. James Palmer was third. Darren Kiff won the E3 class both days and finished 5th overall both days.

In the Over 40 category it was another double victory for Andrew Edwards however Gas Gas U.K. importer John Shirt Jr. was hot on his heels on day one, just 2 seconds behind! On day 2 it was Shirt in 2nd again, however he was further back on Day 2. Vincent Harker was 3rd day one and Andrew Reeves came home in 3rd on day two.

Richard Hay was your winner in the Over 50 class on day one. He took a 7 second margin of victory ahead of Devonshire-man Gary McCoy. Russel Millward was a further 5 seconds behind in 3rd. On day two Russel Millward turned things around and bounced back to take a victory aboard his Yamaha. Mr Consistent Gary McCoy was 2nd once again, and like day 1, he was less than 10 seconds from victory. Just 5 seconds separated them. Mark Houson beat Richard Hay and scored a podium result for Day 2.
