Former Manx Motor Cycle Club Chairman, Harvey Garton, is the Club's new president succeeding Bill Bennett, who had been the Club President for the past three years, having previously also served as Chairman. Mr Bennett, who had been a Committee member since 1982, was thanked for his 'outstanding commitment'. In his outgoing speech, he paid tribute to the club. 'A tradition stretching back 96 years should not be forgotten, he said. 'As a club, we have instigated so many innovations: the Newcomers' race, the Classic Racing and new classes for the races. We are always adapting, and long may that continue.' Mr Bennett said he was delighted to propose Mr Garton as the new president and he paid tribute to his dedication both as chairman during a 'very interesting time in the club's history' and as a long-standing scrutineer. Mr Garton said it was an enormous honour for someone who had been enthralled by his first visit to the Manx in 1961 as a spectator sitting on the hedge. 'I will do my level best to support the Chairman and the Committee as we move towards the Centenary Manx Grand Prix in 2023,' he said. Photo credit: Jeff Kirby
