By fielding a race winner in six motos, Team USA dominated the Vets Motocross des Nations Team races in the tenth edition of this classic event.
Mike Brown won four of the Twinshock Team races and backed this up with two moto wins in the Evo races. The Team, consisting of Brown, Doug Dubach, John Dowd and Ivan Tedesco finished well ahead of the remaining fourteen teams in each class.
Kurt Nicoll riding for Team England delighted the patriotic fans who lined the 1700 metre circuit with a moto win and backed this up with a second and third in the EVO races. Riding for Scotland, Billy MacKenzie won the final moto to the equal delight of the fans who lined the 1700 meter circuit.
With two motos each day in both classes, the strong USA squad took an early advantage by packing the three score counting riders into the top six places in every moto whilst past winners Germany kept in touch in the Twinshock class before fading on day two. The England team were always in contention in the EVO races with Nicoll posting top three spots except for a charge from last to eleventh in the third moto.
In the supporting races, Tom Church made a clean sweep in the EVO 125 class with four straight wins. Chris Bastick posted 1,3,2,4 to claim the Evo 250 class whilst ex World MX3 Champion Sven Breugelmans fought back from a first moto 4th to take the Evo 500 class. Riding a superbly prepared Honda, Billy MacKenzie was unbeaten in the Super EVO class whilst Doug Dubach was only stopped from a maximum in the Evo Over 50s in one moto by Kurt Nicoll. Rob Mean comfortably won the Pre 85 Class with three wins as did Ireland’s William Burgess in the Twinshock Over 50 class whilst Todd De Hoop posted 1,2,5,1 to claim the Twinshock Under 50s honours.
