NG Road Racing are already at meeting six of the 2018 series and this year of NG Road Racing action is shaping up to be a stunning season with full grids and great racing in all classes so far. The season got off to a stuttering start after Brands Hatch was cancelled due to the "Beast from the East" but since then the grids and racing have proved how strong racing is in the UK at present.
The next meeting will be at Donington is always a firm favourite with the riders and the 600 class is pretty much guaranteed to be a highlight. Alex Jones on top of the championship on his R6 but Kayla Barrington is right on his tail. Kayla, former Super-Moto star, now turned road racer had two wins last time out and is sure to be pushing for more here at one of her favourite tracks. Former 600 champ Sean Montgomery is also in the hunt. Donington does not hold good memories for Sean so he is sure to have his fingers crossed that he has a reversal of fortunes. Aaron Ridewood too will want good points after a no score last time out as his R6 failed him in a big way! The top five are covered by just 12 points, and with BSB runner Alex Baker back on track this will be a set of races to savour
Tim Bradley is so far unbeaten in the F400 class in 2018 with his FZR400 but Bradley Richman and Nick Brown are keeping the pressure on. Someone else who has hit a run of form is Richard Hughes. He has taken nine wins on his 1000cc BMW Streetstocker and is on track to take the title he last held in 2014 when he was on a Honda.
Sidecars have been a big hit at previous Donington Park meetings, and this weekend not only sees the season long NG series out on track but also the ACU/FSRA Formula 2 British Championship runners having their fifth round of the year, so it is a vital part of the season for them with just three more rounds remaining.
When it comes to the Superbikes Josh Day is the man of the year heading up both the Open and Powerbike championships on his ZX10R Kawasaki. He will expect the challenge to come from the usual men in James, Kiff, Nick Williamson, Allister Haynes, Chris Pope, Gary Stevens and Paul Dawson.
Sit back and watch all the action from Donnington’s vast vantage points that overlook much of this circuit.
Donington Park Circuit
This 1.96-mile race track is fast and flowing with a series of high speed sweeping corners opening out onto the fast and undulating Dunlop straight. Donington is all about high corner speed and smooth riding. You will see a lot of high speed overtaking as well as bravery in the braking areas at Roberts, Redgate and the Old Hairpin.....but be warned if you get one corner wrong, your lap has gone !
Racing at Donington dates back to 1931, but after WW2 racing was halted, and it was not until Tom Wheatcroft got hold of it in 1971 things got back on track (...literally!). Donington has hosted every type of bike racing from Moto GP, Endurance, BSB... and was of course the venue for the first ever World Superbike round in 1988.
Now in the hands of MSV the track and facilities are undergoing a overhaul and MSV facelift....
NG's Fastest Rider at Donington Park
Current BSB Superstock front runner Ben Godfrey was in the NG paddock last year and set a new NG lap record at 1min 09.3secs in May 2016. That equates to 101.5mph average on his BMW S1000R
Adding extra interest to the weekend.......
NG Road Racing is again running and promoting the British National series for Hartsmere Logistics 125cc and Dymag 250cc GP machinery. This is the only place in the UK that you will see these ex-GP machines racing for a full British Championship title backed by the ACU (The sports governing body in the UK). We also have the Ducati Desmo Due Series and the ever-growing Suzuki Bandit challenge along with the Formula Prostock runners.
