Southern 100 Racing recently held a presentation to two stalwarts of the races held on the Colas Billown Course who between them have given 40-years’ service to the races.
Reg and Margaret Read became involved with the southside races in 1997 when they moved to the Island from the south of England, having previously met the current Club Chairman, Phil Taubman MBE at the TT some years previously during their regular visits to the June races.
Both having carried out various duties organising and running the races, Reg took on the position as one of the judges on the Start-Finish Line in 2004, with Margaret joining him twelve-months later – positions they both held until stepping down at the end of the 2016 races.
Clerk of the Course, Peter Oates presented Reg and Margaret with an inscribed silver salva whilst Tricia Clague presented Margaret with a specially made basket of fresh flowers on behalf of the Southern 100 Racing Club.
Prior to presenting the Salva Peter Oates said:
‘The club are extremely grateful to Reg and Margaret for their outstanding and loyal service to the club and for the efficient way they carried out their duties as judges was exemplarily, and both will be sadly missed by the club.’
Replying on behalf of both of them Reg Read said:
‘It had been a great privilege to have been involved with the Southern 100 and the Pre-& Post TT Races over so many years and that they had met and made many friends, which they still hope to see on their visits to the ‘friendly races’.
He continued:
‘I thank the club on behalf of Margaret and myself for the very kind presentation and the excellent buffet. ‘We will be able to enjoy watching the races now in a more relaxed way and soak up the fantastic atmosphere of the races and enjoy the Southern 100 hospitality – thank you again.’
Southern 100 Racing would like to thank the proprietors and staff at
Francesco’s 2 Restaurant, St Paul’s Square Ramsey for providing an excellent Buffet and to
Richard Radcliffe for taking the photographs.
