The fifth round of the FSRA/ACU Formula 2 British Sidecar Championship heads to Cadwell Park on the 5th and 6th August. This will be the second of three meetings this season hosted by Auto 66 club and Cadwell Park. A favourite circuit among many of the teams in rural Lincolnshire.
This round will have an added attraction as the overall winner of the weekend will be awarded the prestigious Steve Norbury Trophy. This will be presented by representatives of the Norbury family. Steve was a regular competitor at British level and became British F2 sidecar champion in 2006. Steve had many podiums at the TT with four second place finishes and seven times finished third. Steve went on to race the long formula one bike in the World Championships and whilst competing at a German Championship round in Hockenheim in 2008 sadly succumbed to his injuries after an accident.
The second round which took place in April saw the partnership of Crawford/Farrance take the win on Saturday with the Lowther brothers John and Jake in second and Harrison/Winkle in third, the latter achieving a podium spot at this years Isle of Man TT.
The second race saw the reigning champions Founds/Walmsley take the win from father and son Steve and Matty Ramsden who enjoyed great success in winning three out of four races at the Barry Sheene Festival on the 22
nd and 23
rd July and Harrison/Winkle secured another third place finish.
The team of Founds/Walmsley were leading the championship by thirty eight points before last weeks round at Anglesey, with John and Jake Lowther who achieved a maiden victory together at the Barry Sheene Festival tied on ninety five points with Steve and Matty Ramsden.
In the F2 cup there were also different winners, on the Saturday it was Anderson/Gravel taking the win, with Lumley/Whitnall in second and taking the final podium spot from the Isle of Man Jackson/Crowe. On the Sunday it was the pairing of Remnant/Tilley taking the win from F2 Cup championship leaders Ilaria/James and in third place Jackson/Crowe. Likewise before last weeks meeting at Anglesey the leading protagonists Ilaria/James with a twelve point lead over second place Jackson/Crowe and five points further back Remnant/Tilley.
The teams will be hoping for a safe and successful Anglesey meeting as a quick turnaround of just five days before this round at Cadwell.
For the statisticians out there, the current FSRA Super F2 lap record is currently held by Neary/Knapton set over seven years ago with a blistering time of 1:37.32s. The current F2 Cup lap record isnt too shabby either with a time of 1:38.189 recorded by Founds/Walmsley in 2015.
