Preston and District Motorcycle Club have given a generous donation of £1000 to the ACU Benevolent Fund.
The gift was made possible thanks to a hugely successful season last year. The club saw a rise in funds due to a spike in the number of entries at each meeting, and the introduction of the new competitor training academy also proved to be a hit with rookie riders taking their first steps into the sport.
As a result, the committee decided to give something back - and the Benevolent Fund was the obvious choice. The fund is in place to help competitors and ACU members in times of hardship, normally resulting from an incident during competition. Established in 1951, the registered charity relies entirely from donations and fund raising events to keep it going.
The cheque was presented by the club chairman Brett Moor at a recent meeting of the ACU North Western Centre. NW Benevolent Fund Officer David Harrison was on hand to receive the donation on behalf of the ACU.
Brett said “The club recognises the importance of the good work done by the fund, and hopefully the donation can be of benefit to ACU members in the future”. Club members past and present have benefited from the charity, and the help given to members as a result is welcomed by those in times of need.
