Sunday saw the Woodbridge DMCC host their final Motocross event of the 2016 season as the penultimate round of the ACU Eastern Championship took place at Blaxhall. Over 150 riders took part in 12 action packed races in the autumn sunshine.
With the venue avoiding the heavy rain in the area the track was in great condition and a strong line up of Expert and Junior grade riders provided some close racing in the main Premier class races during the day.
The opening Premier class race saw the reigning champion Luke Benstead take a solid start to finish race win ahead of Lewis Tombs who pushed hard to make a late race challenge for the victory. It was Luke Parker who took third ahead of James Cottrell and Shaun Southgate in fifth. In the battle of the Juniors in was Daniel Patterson who was the first Junior across the line ahead of George Turner and Josh Keeble
It was Shaun Southgate who claimed the holeshot in the second Premier race of the day and pulled an early lead, until Benstead moved into the lead before suffering a puncture and dropping to 10
th. This allowed Southgate to retake the lead and the race win ahead of Luke Parker and Brad Woodroffe in third. Fourth once again went to James Cottrell with Brendon Mayers in fifth. This time round it was Turner who was the first Junior home with Keeble second and Patterson third.
The third and final Premier Class race saw Luke Parker take the early race lead ahead of Lewis Tombs. As the race progressed Tombs and Cottrell moved ahead of Parker and battled at the front for the win, until Cottrell made a mistake on the final lap and went down. This allowed Tombs to take the win over Benstead, Parker, Jason Morland and Mayers. Turner claimed another Junior race win over Keeble and Jake Biggs.
After the three races it was Luke Parker who took the overall victory ahead of Luke Benstead and Shaun Southgate. With Parker claiming the overall it was enough to secure the 2016 Expert title. In the Junior Championship George Turner claimed the overall and with it the Junior Championship for 2016.
There was also plenty of close racing in the Intermediate class where it was Rheis Morter who claimed the overall victory with three race wins ahead of James Cobby and Joe Salmons in third, fourth and fifth places overall went to Jake Suskins and Connor Foy.
In the two support classes it was Thomas Fazah who took three race wins and the overall in the Support Class A ahead of Andrew Cattermole in second and Bradley Smith third, while in Support Class B it was Benjamin Kierman who took all three race wins and the overall over Gareth Cushion in second and Gary Scarlett in third.
