The weekend of the 26/27/28 August will see the Rhayader club introduce a new ground breaking format to the ACU British Enduro Championship, following in the footsteps of the World Enduro Championship the club will be the first in the UK to host a Friday night prologue, which will see Championship class riders compete “head to head” over a short test of man-made hazards, Rocks, Logs, Tyres etc. It is hoped that this along with a live band, a children’s bouncy castle and hog roast will draw in spectators from the local area and further afield. All are welcome and it is all – FREE OF CHARGE!!
An excellent line up of top UK riders are already entered – Steve Holcombe, Jack Edmondson (recently crowned 2016 World Youth Champion), David Knight, current European Enduro Champion Tom Sagar, Danny McCanney, Lee Sealey just to name but a few, this with an eclectic mix of experienced and raw talent guarantees an action packed event.
The event is held at Cwmythig Hill situated off the B4518 on the Rhayader to St Harmon road, it will be signposted from Rhayader. The venue boasts a tarmac drive, large hard standing paddock, large grass field parking area and a permanent toilet block.
The main event on the Saturday & Sunday, the Rhayader 2 Day Enduro, rounds 5 & 6 of the ACU British Enduro Championship, will start at 9.00am both days from the paddock at Cwmythig Hill.
The event sees a number of local talent, Tom Sagar (Newtown) & Charlie Evans (Llanidloes) both in the Championship class, while Rhayader’s Adam James, Alex Walton & Marc Evans will all be hoping for good placing’s in the very competitive Expert class.
There are also classes for Clubman, Over 40’s, Over 50’s Ladies & Sportsman riders. Saturday will also incorporate a Sidecar class, again this is a round of the ACU British Sidecar Enduro Championship. David Williams/Simon Brown (Llanidloes) will no doubt have another battle with rivals Jonathan Williams/Neil James (Llandrindod wells).Experts include Martin Rowan/Anthony Mills (Llandrindod Wells) & Nicolas Evans/Alun Evans all will be fighting it out for top honours on local turf.
The course incorporates local forests, and includes an Enduro test at Saintwell and the Motocross test at Cwmythig. Presentation of awards for the Sidecar class with the Trevor Evans Memorial Cup being presented to the best local sidecar crew, will take place Saturday evening, along with another local band, hog roast etc.
