The stars of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship will head to the streets of Castle Donington on Sunday 22 May, ahead of the only UK round of the series at Donington Park the following weekend.
A number of riders will take to the streets in a unique event which will allow the public to get closer to the stars than ever before, a recurring theme of the race weekend itself.
The event will start at 1pm, with World Superbike legend and King of the Jungle Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty leading the parade into the village. Current World Superbike riders confirmed include Derby’s Alex Lowes, former champions Sylvain Guintoli and Tom Sykes and ex MotoGP rider Karel Abraham. A host of British riders from the World Supersport Championship will also participate, including Stefan Hill, Kyle Smith, Gino Rea and Luke Stapleford.
The free of charge parade and demonstration is expected to finish by 3pm, with the riders doing several laps of the streets before stopping for photograph opportunities. Spectators will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the race event itself. A separate parade of 40 classic bikes will start the event off, before the racers take to the streets, with the route including laps of Borough Street, The Hollow, Clapgun Street and Apiary Gate, before concluding with a presentation in the Assembly Area outside Castle Donington Methodist Church.
Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “The parade into the village will be a fantastic way to kick start our build up to the only UK round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. With the world’s leading riders taking to the streets of the historic village, we will put on a unique display and allow fans to get closer to the stars than ever before, free of charge! Our thanks to go Castle Donington Parish Council for agreeing to close the streets for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon for what should be a fantastic occasion.”
The World Superbike round at Donington Park will be the ultimate in fan friendliness. With paddock entry included with each ticket, fans will be able to meet the riders and see the teams at work up close. With a huge amount of entertainment around the venue with the Paddock Show, and special acts lined-up for the new infield camping zone, there’ll be plenty of action both on track and off it, to keep spectators entertained and guarantee a full weekend of excitement!
Tickets for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park are available in advance from just £10.50.
