In what must be one of the longest continuous support packages in British Motorsport, Michelin have once again agreed to support the ACU/NoraSport British Supermoto Championship for the 8th consecutive year.
However for 2016 there has been a slight change in emphasis, whereas in the past all classes have been restricted to Michelin tyres, for 2016 only the two Elite classes will have control tyre status.
Michelin Marketing Manager James Dimmock commented “We have had a long and mutually beneficial association with British Supermoto and that association has been built on the exceptional quality of our Supermoto tyres. Our discussions with NoraSport showed that there was a big increase in the number of new & novice riders looking to come into the sport and we wanted to make it as easy as possible for people who are keen to dip their toes into the sport. Now they can come along and try a couple of meetings on whatever tyres they have available and we are confident that once they are up and running they will choose Michelin as the outstanding performer in the field.”
For NoraSport Race Director David Dearden added - “Michelin have been our primary supporter since 2008 and have helped us improve our sport in its professionalism and competitiveness, we are really pleased to continue our association for 2016 and making only the Elite classes a control tyre is a very sensible step forward. I’m sure 99% of the competitors would choose Michelin anyway as it the proven winner in our sport”
To reflect the Michelin support the two top levels of British Supermoto will be renamed. The 450 Elite class becomes the "Michelin Premier Cup" and the Open Elite is now the "Michelin Elite Championship". Both classes carry a full ACU recognised British title.
