Following the recent ACU Track Racing Committee meeting held at ACU House in Rugby on the 14th September the committee are pleased to be able to announce the award winners for the 2015 season.
After a long discussion and a close fought battle between several clubs the award for ‘Organiser of the Year 2015’ was given to the Midshire GTC club.
The award was given to the Midshire GTC following their hugely successful ‘Masters of Midshire’ which attracted a fantastic line up of riders in all class to keep the large crowd of fans entertained during the day. After the torrid 2014 season which saw the Midshire GTC events cancelled due to bad weather the club bounced back well in 2015 to hold one of the best meetings of the year.
The committee commended Wimborne MCC for a well-run British Masters and the work that the club went to, to source a new track after their meeting earlier in the year. Special merit was also given by the committee to the 500cc Sidecar Association who have done a great job promoting the 500cc Sidecar Super Series which has resulted in a rejuvenation of the 500cc Sidecar class.
The Track Racing Committee also confirmed that Reg Blackbourn has been awarded the ‘Bill Smith Special Merit’ award for the 2015 season as recognition of his continued commitment to the sport of Grass Track and his organisation of the annual International Lincolnshire Poacher.
Following a superb season in the 500cc Solo class which saw him take victory at both the British Solo Masters and the Sand Race Championship, James Shanes has been awarded the ‘Jim Rendall Trophy’ after topping the grading list. In the 1000cc Sidecar class the ‘Brian Stibbs Trophy’ has been awarded to Colin Blackburn and Carl Pugh following their great season which included taking victory at the British Masters.
Other awards also confirmed by the Track Racing Committee were the ‘ACU Star Awards’ which is awarded to the rider who tops the grading list in each class. In the 250cc Solo class the award went to Tim Greig, with Mark Taylor claiming the 350cc Solo Award. In the Sidecar classes Mitch Godden and passenger Natasha Bartlett claimed the 500cc Sidecar Award while Will Penford and Ricky Pay clinched the 1000cc Left Hand Sidecar Award for 2015.
