Welsh teenager Dafydd Davies wrapped up the ACU British Clubman title with a round to spare on Sunday thanks to another dominant victory, this time at Cusses Gorse.
The 16-year-old became the first rider to clinch a title in the 2015 NORA MX championships thanks to three race wins around the superbly prepared Wiltshire track.
The only time he was really headed was by fast starting Alex Bethell, but even then it was for just a few corners, before Davies moved ahead and stretched out 37, 21 and 31 second victories.
Tom Chell, his nearest championship challenger, ended the day second overall thanks to a pair of seconds, split by a third in the second race. Bethell took third spot with his best result being two third places.
In the Clubman B class, winner Dean Porter took two race wins before finishing second in the final race behind Bradley Cockrem.
Davies’s EDR Racing teammate, Luke Cooper, was also in dominant form in the Pro Class, winning all three races. Each time he was pushed hard by his des Nations team-mate, George Callaway, who trimmed the winning margin as the day wore on from six seconds in the first race down to three and half seconds in the third.
Third overall, thanks to three thirds, was Carl Bunce, who was still walking gingerly after his massive Pont de Vaux crash. No other rider finished in the podium.
In the Pro B class Kieran Power notched up his first overall win of the year thanks to two race wins split, by a second place in race two, when Josh Waring took victory.
In the Masters class, championship leader Ed Davies took three dominant wins, each time by over half a minute. In each race Gary Aldington finished a lonely second, while Ant Barrett, having his first ride in the series this year after recovering from injury, finished third each time.
In the Master B Group however there were three different race winners. Overall victory for the second time this year went to Marcus Knight, who won the opener, then backed it up with a second and third. Andrew Willcock took second overall thanks to a second, fourth and a last race win.
Runaway series leader Gary McKenna, who is still recovering from a knee injury, limped round to third overall, though he did manage to win the second race.
In the 250 class Scotland’s Lorne Sinclair was in dominant form winning all three races, controlling each from the front. His biggest winning margin came in race one when he won by 21 seconds from Jack Norris.
However Norris’s overall challenge faded when he hurt his back in race two, in which Ayrton Knowles was second, four seconds behind the winner. Knowles had finished third in the first race after a poor start meant he had to come through the field.
In the final race Sinclair won by nine seconds from 250 Modified rider Harry Carmichael, who battled with the Open class hybrids all a day. He was rewarded with second place overall and a dominant win in the Modified class. Catrin Davies was second overall – her best result of the year - and Scott Berlyn third.
In the 250 Standard Group Daniel Hares was on form with three wins, from a consistent Josh Talent who secured three thirds. Third overall went to Vassna Willcock who started slowly but finished the day with two seconds. Shelley Smart won the 150 Open Group.
In the 100 Group Robbie Wood was another Scot who made the long trip south worthwhile, taking overall victory thanks to a consistent 3-1-2.
Alfie Walker had won the opening race, by six seconds, from Marcus Sprason, and fast starting Woods. However, Sprason and Walker both DNF’d race race two, leaving Wood to win by 21 seconds from the Tom Fitzgerald.
In the third Wood came home second behind Woods, which was enough to give him a healthy 13 point winning margin over Fitzgerald, with Dylan McKenna just nicking third overall after tying on points with Aled Davies.
In the 125 Raptor class Lewis Humphris took victory after backing up second in race one with two wins.
