This coming Bank Holiday weekend August 29/31st the fourth round of the ACU Drag Racing Championship heads to Shakespeare County Raceway.
Funny Bike
Points leader Dave Peters won the opening two rounds this season and at the recent Bulldog Bash meeting at Shakespeare County he recorded his personal best 60ft time of 0.966sec and ran 7.4 at 181mph. Allan Davies is in third place 430 points behind and is working on both of his motors and will have one of them fitted in the frame for this meeting. Harold Wolfenden has started to run consistent in the low eight-second zone and could win this event if Peters and Davies have any problems. Pete Le Gros will be hoping his new fuel set will get him into the seven-second. Nick Daniels is back out after engine problems and Phil Crossley is also returning after some engine damage.
Comp Bike
Kevin Osman won his first ACU event at the last round of the championship and has a 235 point lead over Mick Winyard, who won his first ACU event here at Shakespeare County early this year (Springspeed Nationals). Tied with him is Eddy Smiley winner of the opening round of the championship, which was his first ACU event win. Paul Hambridge missed the Springspeed Nationals and is only 60 points behind. Sean Mills returns after missing the Summernationals. Dave Smart is another rider to look out for after running in the seven-second bracket at Summernationals. Mark Hope will make his debut in the class on his Hayabusa. With three different winners in three rounds this is going to be a close race for the title.
Super Street Bike.
Chris Reed lies second in the championship and with points leader Garry Bowe not entered, Reed could take the points lead if he wins the event. Alex Hope won his first Super Street Bike event at the Springspeed Nationals here at Shakespeare County early this year and has just returned from Tierp in Sweden were he finished runner up to Rick Stubbins and Hope ran personal best figures of 7.262-203.48mph. Roger Simmons will make his debut in the class this weekend.
