Anstie and Simpson extend Championship lead at Foxhill
The historic Grand Prix circuit of Foxhill near Swindon played host to the sixth round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship powered by Skye Energy on Sunday. With clear blue skies and bright sunshine it was Max Anstie on the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki and Shaun Simpson on the Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM who dominated the proceedings on the hard pack circuit by taking three moto wins each.

In the MX2 class series leader Max Anstie took three strong race wins to extend his points leads, but didn’t have it all his own way after suffering with bad starts in the opening two races and having to battle through the field to take the win. Steven Lenoir on the Dyer and Butler KTM kept in touch with Anstie in the championship race by taking the second step on the podium with 3-3-2 results, but with two rounds and six races remaining he trails the GP superstar by 23 points. After a strong start to the day, Adam Sterry on the Wilvo Forkrent KTM took third overall for the first time since Lyng with 2-4-4 results which keeps him in touch with current third place man, Ben Watson on the Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM who recorded 4-5-3 finishes.

In the MX1 class, Simpson, whose confidence is super high in the British Championship dominated the first two twenty minute races, but had to dig deep in the third encounter as Buildbase Honda Racing’s Gert Krestinov kept the red plate holder at bay for most of the race before a small mistake on one of the steep downhills allowed Simpson to effectively put one hand on the title with six races remaining and a comfortable 116 point margin over Tanel Leok. The Estonian on the LPE Racing Kawasaki suffered a disappointing first moto following an issue with the rear brake but recovered to score a fourth and fifth on the circuit which put him out of the championship after a crash in 2013. On a day where consistency was the key in difficult track conditions, two new faces stood beside Simpson on the podium for the first time this season with Martin Barr on the BRT KTM just edging out Graeme Irwin on the Heads and All Threads Suzuki by one point after Irwin suffered a crash in the final race which resulted in him finishing 11th after posting a strong second and third earlier in the day.

Foxhill also featured the Veterans class and it was series leader Ryan Voase on his Kawasaki who took three straight moto wins after admitting to not being able to practice during the week due to an ongoing wrist injury. A close tussle now ensues for second in the series as Phil Mercer on the IDS Transport KTM reversed a one point disadvantage for second place with his season long battle with Brian Wheeler who is campaigning the two stroke GL12 Yamaha. Despite a crash, Mercer took second on the podium, with 2-3-2 finishes compared to Wheeler with 3-2-3 results. With one round remaining Voase now holds a 57 point advantage in the championship.

The Championship now takes an enforced summer break before the next round at Preston Docks on the 6th September.
