THE PRESTIGIOUS DAVID NIX MEMORIAL MEETING - Sunday 5th July 2015

After a successful start to the 2015 season with the first meeting the Robert Chatterton trophy held on 3rd MAY, Wainfleet & District Sporting Motorcycle Track Racing Club know that Sunday`s David Nix Memorial will be just as good.  With a top lineup of riders coming from all over Britain to ride in honour of David, who was from Carrington, Nr Boston, he was a former Wainfleet rider, club member and speedway young star, who unfortunately died in action at Kings Lynn stadium in May 2002.

 

Club Chairman Reg Blackbourn said this is a very special meeting, started in 2003.  This year it will be the twelfth running of this event which increases in stature each year and an array of top talent is already signed up to vie for honours.  This Sunday’s meeting racing is at the usual top Irby-In-The-Marsh grass circuit, where the club has assembled a line-up of 250cc, 350cc, & 500cc solos plus a small No of youth and the awesome 1000cc sidecars.

 

Riders include many local Lincolnshire aces and national stars, in the 500cc solo class ,Ben Millichap from Worcester looks the favorite, other riders likely to be putting in a strong challenge include  Steve Taylor of Cheshire and ex Boston speedway rider Dean Garrod from Norfolk, Jamie-Fenn-Smith and his brother Ben from Sleaford, and Nick Cosby From Newcastle.

   

The 350cc event features ex club Champion Andy Mellish from Manchester, lady rider Megan Holtby from N/York and              Alan-Fenn-Smith dad to Jamie and Ben from Sleaford.

Former British Champion York’s David Knowles winner of the first event this year and current club champion is the stand out performer in the 250 class. Ex Boston speedway rider Ricky Scarboro from Wragby and his young son Kurtis are heading the local challengers.  Other challengers include Mark William from Hull and young lady rider Sophie Flint from Norfolk who is fresh up to the Adults this year from the youth class.

 

In the big guns the 1000cc sidecars, there are 12 top teams including former Masters and Poacher Champions Rob Bradley of York with local passenger Shaun Simpson from Wrangle near Boston.  Rob unfortunately missed the first meeting due to his bike not being ready. Winners of the first meeting and also ex British Champions and Poacher winner is Local Colin Blackbourn from Friskney, Nr Boston with passenger Carl Pugh from Worcester who must start as favorite.  Trevor Heath ex Solo Rider will be racing with Kieron Bonner as passenger; they gave an impressive performance at the meeting in May.  Also in the line-up is      Stef Blyth with lady Passenger Natasha Bartlett from Nottingham.  Jeff Measor and passenger Mark Dibsdall will be travelling up from Oxford.

 

We will have some more impressive racing from a small group of Youth Riders ranging from 6 to 16 years of age. Local rider to look out for is Mickie Simpson, Mickie is son of Shaun Simpson who is passenger to Rob Bradley, and Mickie will be racing in the junior Class.

 

Racing on Sunday 5th July starts at 1.30pm with practice at noon. With 35 race programme, racing will finish at around 5.00pm with the presentation of Trophies. Another date to mark in the diary is 30th August 2015 - Bank Holiday Sunday for the clubs ‘jewel in the crown’ The International Lincolnshire Poacher long track.` England’s biggest International off road long track event`.  Already many of the top World and British Long Track riders have signed up to compete for the prestigious Poacher title this year.
