The Master of Midshires was in a class of its own, what a great days racing we had.
At last the weather was kind to the club. Watched by a large crowd every class produced thrilling and close racing on the superbly prepared track.
The 250cc class was won by Jed Collins in an epic final with David Knowles, passing and repassing each other over the four laps closely followed by Luke Harris in 3rd place.
350cc class was a tussle between Paul Cooper, Mark Taylor, Andy Mellish and Barry Powell.
Paul Cooper was unbeaten over the four points scoring legs. Paul looks a good bet for the 350 British title later in the year.
Upright class was a tail of misfortunes; Steve Daw unbeaten in the heats led the final only to come to a halt on the first lap. Taking over the lead Stephen Green then had bike problems leaving the way for Mike Dowling to take a well deserved victory followed by Tim Curnock and Nigel Stanford.
Youth Junior class had Jake Mulford came out on top of the Four legs, Danny Kurl 2
nd and Kelsie Buck 3
rd.
Youth Inters, 1st Charlie Brook 2
nd Jack Dummett 3
rd Louis Skelding. A special mention for Henry Atkins who missing out on a podium finish by having bike problems after winning two legs.
500cc the premier solo class was won by late entry James Shanes in majestic style passing Paul Cooper when he ran wide, 3
rd Tim Nobes making a welcome return to the grass after a spell out of the sport Tim never looked like he had been away.
1000cc Right Hand Sidecars Colin Blackbourrn & Carl Pugh came into the final unbeaten. Leading from the gate they were hunted down by Masters Champions Rod Winterburn & Liam Brown. Also getting by on the last corner to make it a family one and two Gareth Winterburn & Billy Winterburn, leaving Colin Backbourn & Carl Pugh in a close 3
rd. A wonderful exciting race to end the meeting.
If the rest of the season is half as good as the Master of Midshires then we are in for a great Grasstrack season.
