The first round of the 2015 Maxxis British Sidecarcross championships will take place on 26th April at Asham Woods, Leighton hosted by the Frome & DMCC. This will be the first British championship event being run by the new committee so we wish them every success in this venture.
This year the championship races will comprise two separate classes. One is the British Championship in the same format as in previous years. The second is the new ‘National Expert Sidecarcross Championship’ which is open to any rider meeting the general entry criteria for the main championship but excludes any rider who finished in the top ten last year or who has competed in the World championships in the last two years.
Defending champions Stuart Brown / Josh Chamberlain will be wanting to start their defence off with three wins. They have not been beaten on this track so far so their rivals are going to have to work really hard to break their record.
Last year’s runners up, Brett Wilkinson / Steve Kirwin have not started this year as well as they would have liked and in the international meetings they have competed in to date their results have been below par. If they are to challenge for the lead they are going to have to up their game.
In third place last year were the local team of Daniel and Joe Millard. Their pre season training was less than they would have liked but their form in Europe has been good and they should be able to challenge for the lead.
Also in the running for podium finishes are AMCA champions Simon Bradford / Luke Peters, and Richard Jenkins with his new passenger Josh Haynes. Once again three crews from Ireland will be in
contention, namely Neil Campbell / Ross Graham, Emma Moulds / Niki Adair and Gary Moulds / Alan Gardner.
With the new format having attracted an entry of thirty five teams the racing should be fast and furious throughout the field.
Also on the programme are classes for Vets, Evo 125, Evo 250, Evo 500 Evo Clubmans and Evo over 50s.
Practice is due to start at 9 am with the first race 11 am. Admission for adults is £10 and £5 for OAPs and children over 7 years. Camping is allowed on the Saturday night and the club are organising a Hog Roast plus a beer tent with DJ.
The track is alongside the A361 Shepton Mallet to Frome road approx 6 miles west of Frome. For those with Satnav the nearest postcode is BA11 4PW
