The Washburn Valley hosts the third round of the S3 Parts championship on Easter Sunday where the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club stage the Chris Carter Trophy national trial right on the boundaries of West and North Yorkshire. With the exception of first round winner James Fry and also Simon Welch and Ben Bowkett all the main players, headed by series leader Richard Sadler, will ride the forty section one lap event.
West Witton’s MRS Sherco teamster Sadler has a nine point buffer over Chris Pearson and Haworth’s Dan Clark. The latter, along with fellow Appleyard Beta rider Phil Disney, drew the short straw at the Jack Wood with early numbers. Clarky’s meager eight points reflected the number draw. Wood winner Ian Austermuhle will be strong at Dob Park as will Guy Kendrew as will Ben Hemingway and John Crinson. Also in the mix will be high scoring Dan Farrer.
The unknown quantities hail from the North East Centre in the form of Carl Hollis, Lewis Peart and John Battensby who form the final quartet with landlord Martin Crosswaite who manages to serve meals and ale most times then wheel out his 250 Beta, and win. The best advice to the North East trio is – watch Crosser. The Over forties class is coming to the boil. Mr Gas Gas, John Shirt, won Hillsborough from Tony Scarlett and Mark Hicken with Daz Wasley hovering with intent. Phil Disney
‘rescued’ eleven points so he is one up on Daz while Neil Gaunt surfaces from a good weekend on his 420 Beta and could well upset the applecart. No sight of joint 125cc class leaders Ben Heane and Tom Dexter so all Sheffield & Hallamshire contender Josh Atkinson has to do is finish and score twenty points.
In amongst the one hundred and thirty five starters is British Champion James Dabill riding one his few British nationals. Dibs have George Morton, Ricky Wiggins and Dan Thorpe for company. Yeadon-Guiseley is very specific about the no-go areas and also the activities of the North Yorkshire Police on the day. All machines must comply with all aspects of the Road Traffic Act.
The boys in blue will be out and about so common sense must rule. The trial takes on a new look on Sunday. The first three groups are no-go for spectators so the eleven subs in Brown’s Wood really fire up the Carter. A punch card change precedes the ride to Dob Park Splash which is a half mile walk down the lane. Sword Point and Les’s Rocks are no-go for the simple reason there is no area for vehicle parking. That loop takes in eight sections then the grand finale in Dob Park. The observing rule is TSR22b. Catering and toilets will be in parc ferme. Please note though, no overnight camping and no dogs. Rob McElnea leads the field at 09.31.
