Round 3 of Darley Moor Championship
Many local competitors continued their run of good form at Round 3 of Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Club’s Championship on Sunday 22nd May 2011 in the dry, but very windy conditions.
The Formula Darley machines, with guests the Earlystock competitors from East Midland Racing Association, kicked this weekend’s programme off. Winner of the four races held so far Anthony Porter.
continued to dominate the class, taking another two ‘start to finish’ victories. Other local competitors aiming for the rostrum places included Gary Dangerfield who secured the runner-up spot first time out and followed this with a 4th place in the second race, Chris Spooner taking 4th and 3rd; Alex Woodhouse 5th and 6th; Matt Zschiesche 6th and 5th.
The Peak Cup class saw the domination falter for Shane Pearson who had won the three races he has finished to date. This weekend he had to settle for 2nd place in both Peak Cup and Open Solo races, rival Jim Hodson taking the honours on each occasion. Behind Pearson, Richard Wardle took the final podium position in the Peak Cup races, being the first 600cc home against the 1000cc machines.
The combined 125GP and Formula 125 races saw Ricky Tarren secure 3rd spot in the first race, but unfortunately only completed six of the eight laps in the second, whilst lying 3rd once more. Asher Durham was the 5th Formula 125 in the first race and then secured his best finish in the second race, being the 3rd F125 machine ‘home’. William Green recorded 6th and 5th place finishes.
Gavin Salt won both of the Steel Framed 600 races, the second race he finished just over 1sec in front of 2nd placeman, Jon Skelson who had failed to complete more than two laps of the first race. Sharing the track at the same time with the SF600 machines was the Lightweight class and local racers played a very significant part in the results: Chris Spooner 2nd and 3rd in class; Adam Hoare a 3rd in race one and a class victory in the second; Ben Godfrey 2x 4th place in class and 2x 5th for Matt Zschiesche.
Jamie Medhurst’s winning streak continued briefly in the Sound of Thunder , with victory in the first encounter, but whilst leading the second his bike suffered engine failure on the 5th lap, leaving James Ford to capitalise and follow up his 2nd in the first race with a victory. In the Mini Sound of Thunder class Anthony Porter continued his 100% record taking to two class victories from Gary Dangerfield.
‘Unluckiest rider of the day award’ will certainly go to Ken Davis who was leading both Pre98 class races, but failed to finish both, handing Kevin Cooper the race wins and Jon Skelson the Runner-up place in both.
As ever, the largest class was the Formula 600 machines, these giving the closest finish with the ‘rider of the day’, Jim Hodson taking his 6th victory of the day, by less than 0.5sec from Richard Wardle in the second F600 race. Wardle was only able to take 5th in the first race after a mistake caused him to drop from 2nd down to 9th on the second lap. Ross Richards secured his best finishes with 3rd place in each race, Martyn Cooper equalling his best finish of the season, with 6th in the first and an 8th in the second race.
Round 4 of the Darley Moor Championship is due to take place on Sunday 26th June 2011, admission Adults £11.00, Senior Citizens £6.00, kids under 16 free, parking & paddock transfer free, with Programmes £3.00.
