Waterlooville Motor cycle Club started life in 1928 as The Waterlooville & District Motor Cycle and Light Car Club. Its inaugural meeting was convened by the Reverend Bruce Cornford at The Heroes Pub in Waterlooville
Members in the earlier years took part in Road events, Hill climbs, Trials, Grass-track and Scrambles; the latter now being referred to as ‘Motocross’ until the 1970’s.
By the 1960s we had become a well-established Club organising events which over the ensuing years became nationally and indeed internationally famous.
We currently have approximately 100 members and share our motorcycle interest at our regular club nights.
In 2023, after a 13-year UK break WMCC were pleased to announce the hosting and successful running of the British round of the World Sidecar Motocross Championship. This year we are proud to be hosting the World Sidecar Cross & EMC Quadcross Championship of Great Britain at Foxhill MotoParc, Wiltshire on May 24/25.
On the 20
th July this year we will be holding the 20
th running of our Fossils Charity motorcycle Bike Ride. Over the years, our members’ have chosen a variety of charities to support and our current charities are Serv Wessex the Blood Runners, and The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. To date we have been able raise over £58,000.
The origins of the Fossils began as the successor to the Gales Run which ran from The George Gales Brewery in Horndean, and was an exceptionally popular event for Classic cars and motorcycles.
Today the event, regularly attracts in excess of 100 riders from all over Hampshire and further a-field, and follows the format of a friendly gathering of bike enthusiasts followed by a ride through the Hampshire countryside with prizes awarded for the various classes voted for by the riders and a panel of expert judges. We welcome all riders on 2 wheels or 3.
Although we are a small club, we have a wealth of history and above all we have a team of dedicated, enthusiastic and devoted members who are prepared to collectively go the extra mile in the commitment and organisation of these successful events and of the Club.
