Following the successful TrialGB test events at Hookwood and Scarborough in recent weeks, and after gathering valuable feedback from across the sport, the ACU Trials Commission has introduced important regulation updates for the 2025 TrialGB season.
Enhancements for Youth Riders
A key focus of these updates is on youth riders, particularly those holding B Class licences. The age criteria have been simplified, making it easier for more riders to compete in the TrialGB Aspire category. This aligns with the Commission’s commitment to creating a structured pathway where young riders can develop their skills in a challenging yet supportive national championship.
To reflect these updates, the Sport80 system has been adjusted in preparation for the first event at Scarborough on 5th-6th April. Section 2: Eligibility has been revised, with amendments made to points 2.3 to 2.6.
New eligibility rules are as follows:
TrialGBY Aspire – Open to C Class and B Class licence holders
Trial2Y Foundation – Open to C Class and B Class licence holders
Trial3Y Foundation – Open to D Class and C Class licence holders
Trial4Y Debutant – Open to E Class and D Class licence holders
Adjustments for TrialGB Women’s Categories
To further support the progression of women’s trials, the Trials Commission has introduced greater flexibility within TrialGB Women, Trial2 Women, and Youth A Girls categories.
Clerks of the course now have the discretion to modify specific sections, ensuring that riders are both challenged and supported at an appropriate level:
TrialGB Women – The most difficult Trial Expert sections may be bypassed in favour of the more challenging Youth B Boys route.
Trial2 Women & Youth A Girls – Riders will be offered a less demanding route in those sections to support their development.
These updates are designed to enhance competitiveness while ensuring fair progression, allowing riders to push their limits, gain confidence, and showcase their talent.
Upcoming Events & Entry Deadline
With these changes, the Trials Commission continues to refine the championship structure, ensuring that all riders—across both youth and women’s categories—compete at a level that nurtures their growth and recognises their ability.
